Maggie Daley Speaker Series: Dr. Jean Twenge

On February 6, 2019, the Maggie Daley Speaker Series in partnership with the FXW SET Program welcomed Dr. Jean Twenge, psychologist and author of the popular book, iGen: Why Today’s Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy—and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood.

Through her research on the “iGeneration” —the first generation to spend their adolescence with smartphones—Dr. Twenge spoke to our community about how iGen’ers are growing up more slowly as adolescents, spending more time online, and spending less time with their friends in person. Perhaps as a result, they are more likely to experience unhappiness, anxiety, and depression. At the event, Dr. Twenge also shared her ideas on how we can help the iGeneration be healthier and happier during their tween and teen years.
