The Frances Xavier Warde School may be the best kept secret in the city! We are an academically excellent elementary school that provides a values-oriented education to students of all ethnic, religious, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Our location is a gift, and downtown Chicago is our campus.

Calling All Alumni!

We want to hear from you!  The young people who graduated from FXW in 2005 will be going off to college or the world of work this fall.  Plans are afoot for a reunion for these students (and their parents!), so be sure we have your contact information.

For all alumni, Rob Gordon and Andrew Tinajero (who was featured in our Annual Report) are spearheading the founding of an alumni organization.  They are working on a having a social event, perhaps at the beach early this summer, and perhaps a service project on a Saturday in the later summer or fall.

Contact Marion Flynn (312/798-4069 or flynnm@fxw.org.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

We are thrilled to announce that 73% of our families joined together to raise over $560,000 for the 2008-2009 Annual Fund.  As you may recall, our goal for this year was $500,000.  To have this kind of success is a true testament to the commitment and passion of our families.

We can’t thank you enough for all of your kind emails and for stepping up to support your child’s school in this way. We have a busy summer here as we prepare for new and exciting projects for the upcoming school year:  we have some amazing new teachers joining our staff, will launch our new and improved website, and have some fabulous activities planned to celebrate the 20th year of this unique school and its mission in Chicago.

Again, thank you so much for helping with the success of our Annual Fund.  Your contributions help to keep us forging ahead as one of the top schools in Chicago

Summer in the City!

Chicago is a destination city for tourists from all over the world!  This is a great time to take advantage of what people come from afar to experience:

Take a once-a-week tour on the CTA, chosing a stop in a new neighborhood each time.  Do some internet research on the neighborhood before you go, checking for local museums, unique retailers, ethnic destinations and distinctive architecture.  At www.cityofchicago.org, click on "Explore Chicago."
Don't miss our museum highlights.  There is a great Harry Potter exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry.  And for the little ones, don't miss the "Touch" exhibit at the Art Institute.  The Buckminster Fuller exhibit at the MCA will keep young scientists entralled, and be sure to catch the "Creation Stations" on Tuesday afternoons.
The Chicago Architecture Foundation has fascinating tours around town.  Several of them are in Chicago's famous cemeteries, and are child-friendly.  Several organizations offer tours of Chicago from the water.

Other ideas to share?  Drop a line to Marion Flynn at 312/798-4069, or flynnm@fxw.org.  Have a great summer, FXW!

FXW Alum wins contest - and honors Dad, too!!

Jonathan Davis, FXW Class of 2008 and student at De La Salle Institute, was the winner of the White Sox Illinois Fatherhood Essay Contest, with his work about his dad, Bruce Davis.  The entire Davis family celebrated with Sue Sperling, from the FXW staff, and former teacher Roel Vivit, as Jonathan read his essay, and was pronounced the winner from 18,000 entries!  We are so proud of Jonathan!  When Mary Reiling announced this happy result to a teacher's meeting, a roar of approval went up among all those who know Jonathan and this wonderful family.
