The Frances Xavier Warde School (FXW) takes its name from Mother Frances Xavier Warde, an Irish immigrant and Sister of Mercy who arrived in Chicago in 1846. Mother Warde was relentless in her compassionate outreach to those in need. Guided by her faith, she worked tirelessly to ensure every single person she met received the services they needed to not only survive but thrive within the burgeoning city of Chicago.
Guided by Mother Warde’s generous and unyielding example, we have created the Mother Warde Fund this year to help address the pressing needs of our community. All-encompassing of previous fundraising initiatives such as the FXW Fund and Gala, The Mother Warde Fund is our singular focus this year as we work to ensure our learning programs remain robust in the classroom and while learning off campus, our facilities remain safe for all our students, and our School remains financially accessible for all our families.
As we implement the new necessary and mandated precautions for our community due to COVID-19, operating in a remote capacity amplifies our technology needs and additional in-person safety protocols require us to purchase personal protective equipment and increase campus sanitation procedures. In addition, the dollars raised will help to cover our total expenditures for the year. Whatever matters most to you – from academics to athletics to arts, and from faculty professional development to campus maintenance and security – is made possible, at least in part, by the Mother Warde Fund.
Is giving to the Mother Warde Fund mandatory?
Giving to the Mother Warde Fund is highly encouraged. Each year, we strive for 100 percent participation from parents, alumni, faculty, staff, our Board of Trustees, and other crucial stakeholders. While aspirational, it personifies always wanting to be better. Last year, 84% of our parents participated in our annual fund fundraising initiative.
How much should I give to the Mother Warde Fund?
We ask that you make the Mother Warde Fund a priority for your family. We also understand that the size of your donation depends on your individual financial situation and each year we receive a wide range of gifts. No donation is too small. Every dollar raised matters. We are not asking you to fulfill an annual obligation, but rather to support the difference that our School is making in the world. Your gift to the Mother Warde Fund is a tangible statement that you believe in and are committed to our mission.
How is the Mother Warde Fund different from the FXW Fund and Gala?
All-encompassing of previous fundraising initiatives such as the FXW Fund and Gala, The Mother Warde Fund is our singular focus this year as we work to ensure our learning programs remain robust in the classroom and while learning off campus, our facilities remain safe for all our students, and our School remains financially accessible for all our families. As we do not anticipate having a Gala in its traditional format this year, The Mother Warde Fund is a way to celebrate everything you love about our School while also investing in our community and our future.
Why is the Mother Warde Fund 5 weeks? Can I make my donation outside of the 5-week campaign?
The 5-week campaign was created to allow the community to concentrate our fundraising efforts during a designated time to alleviate multiple solicitations throughout the year. While we hope pledges and/or gifts are made during this 5-week campaign, donations outside of this period are absolutely welcomed and appreciated. For those individuals who make contributions or pledges, you will not be asked to contribute to the Mother Warde Fund again outside of that timeframe. If you miss the 5-week campaign window, our team will follow-up with you to discuss if giving to the Mother Warde Fund is an option for you and your family.
Can I make a pledge or reccuring payment?
Absolutely. Understanding that the COVID-19 crisis has affected all of us in different ways, we encourage you to explore the different Mother Warde Fund donation options, including making a pledge, recurring gift, or one-time donation. A recurring gift – donating a fixed amount every week, month, quarter, etc. – may make a donation to the Mother Warde Fund more manageable for your family. If you choose to make your gift this way, we simply ask that the pledge or recurring payments are paid in full by the end of the school year (June 15). Pledges and recurring payments can be set up in a variety of ways – the Advancement Team is happy to talk through options with you.
Are gifts of stocks permissible to the Mother Warde Fund?
Yes, gifts of stock are welcomed and may offer certain tax advantages. Please contact Danielle Kelly, Associate Director of Advancement, with questions about stock gifts or any other questions about the Mother Warde Fund.
