The Frances Xavier Warde School is a Catholic elementary school in downtown Chicago that provides an excellent academic, values-oriented education to students of all ethnic, religious, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in a child-centered urban environment. Elementary Physical Education Program Description
At The Frances Xavier Warde School, our elementary gym program provides students with a curriculum that encourages physical activity and the development of fine and gross motor skills. Students actively participate in games, activities and sports that contribute to their growth, development, and social attitudes. The physical education teacher facilitates structured physical activities which provide a variety of learning experiences to meet the needs of all students. During these grades, we especially work to foster problem solving, team work, good sportsmanship and healthy life habits.
The elementary physical education teacher is responsible for educating the whole child by providing a quality learning experience to all children in his/her care. The teacher must possess the knowledge and theory to instruct in the content area while using age appropriate methods and procedures.
The Physical Education Teacher reports to the Principal and is evaluated, supervised and mentored by the Principal and or Assistant Principal. Other key relationships s/he include the Head of School, other FXW faculty members, staff, students and parents.
Qualification and Requirements
A candidate should hold:
- A Bachelors or Masters Degree in Education and Physical Education
- A valid, issued State of Illinois teaching certificate Type10 in Physical Education
- A Master’s Degree in the special area is preferred
- 1-3 years previous experience
- The middle school teacher must be able to teach 6 blocks or 90 minute classes
A candidate will need upon hiring:
- A TB test
- Compliance with Archdiocese of Chicago Protecting God’s Children guidelines
- Provide proof of citizenship
