With Mission in Mind—April 26, 2021

Reflection from Kendall Mallette, Director of Mission Integration

Each and every day, our talented and dedicated team works in partnership with our incredible community of parents to support the needs and value the voices of our students every step of the way from preschool through Grade 8 and beyond. And to ensure our students’ needs are fully being met, we continue to encourage our families to have open conversations with your children and offer them opportunities to speak freely and honestly about their feelings. In turn, as our students look to us for guidance, our commitment to you is that FXW will continue to be a safe space for our students to consider the issues that affect our daily lives.

Pictured above are middle school students participating in one of several opt-in DEI focus groups conducted by consultant Karima Wilson of ForgedEd, with the support of campus administrators, that have been offered over the past few weeks and close today for students in Grades 3 through 8. Listening to our students, who do not always see eye-to-eye on certain issues, engage in meaningful inquiry and respectful dialogue with their peers reinforces that we are helping to raise strong Thinkers and Leaders who are inheriting the world now.

This past year has required much reflection, conversation, and much more importantly, change. In the months ahead, we look forward to sharing with you the specific outcomes of our continuing work to be an equitable and inclusive organization that fully reflects our mission and values.

As a reminder, there is no school on Wednesday as our entire faculty and staff will engage in professional development work developed by both the DEI Training for Faculty and Staff and Curriculum Committees of the Equity and Justice Forum. Finally, to help us celebrate and stand in solidarity with our Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage community, please join us on Thursday, April 29 from 7-8 p.m. for Leveraging Our Legacy.
