Extended Day

Extended Day at The Frances Xavier Warde School aims to provide much more than the traditional after school curriculum.

We are firm believers in the benefit of play and socialization. It allows the children to build confidence and learn to make independent decisions further enriching their educational experience outside of school hours.

Extended Day is structured to be activity-based with a schedule to match. This includes outside play, gym time, games, and arts and crafts. Our Extended Day experience provides children a variety of activities to build on their decision-making skills. It also allows for some socialization outside of the classroom.

Children are given an opportunity to work on gross and fine motor skills, problem solving, and cooperative play throughout the activities. We know a child’s experiences during their early years greatly impact the rest of their lives, so we want extended day to be an opportunity to build lifelong skills.

For our OSP Campus (Preschool-Grade 3) participants, the afternoon is broken into three activity periods. Each period runs for around 40 minutes. There will always be outdoor play (weather permitting), sports, and creative activity choices. Each activity is supervised by our experienced staff. At the end of each period, the students and staff are called back to the cafeteria. During this period, the next period of activity choices is announced. This approach provides students ownership over their schedules and keeps them more engaged. Physical activities are kept age specific, but the other activities the students are allowed to comingle.

At the HNC Campus we begin each day with an hour of time for students to complete their homework. Once students are finished with homework, we create different activities for students to participate in: arts and crafts, trivia games, dance, puzzles and gaga are just some of the different choices we provide.
