Primary Grades: K-3
In the primary grades of The Frances Xavier Warde School, imaginative themes are aligned with state and content standards to link all areas of the curriculum. Teachers weave grade level themes into all major content areas. New learning experiences are connected to what students already know. Our goal is to provide classroom environments where children can become self-directed and respectful learners through lessons that encourage creative and critical thinking and real-life experiences in problem solving. This goal is achieved through a combination of developmentally appropriate forms of instruction including small group work, individual projects, whole group direct instruction, balanced literacy and conceptual math using The Everyday Math Program.
Additionally, children are provided with opportunities to work with specialists in the areas of art, library, music, physical education, technology, science, and Spanish. While classrooms at these grade levels are warm and caring places, expectations for achievement are high.
