For over 25 years, FXW has been passionate about developing the “whole” student, and, to that end, offers many opportunities for students to nurture their creative spirits. In the classroom and through a variety of after-school offerings, FXW creates an environment for students to explore the arts, learn new skills, and foster a wide-variety of interests.

In-school music classes in all grade levels at both campuses provide the foundation for FXW’s arts program. Bob Lesh, who initiated the music program at HNC, and Lindsey Baker, who long-held the position at OSP, created many wonderful memories for parents and students alike at holiday concerts and other special performances throughout the school year. In the classroom, students learn the basics of vocal performance, are exposed to a variety of music genres, examine the evolution of musical styles, and are introduced to many different musical instruments. In grades five and eight, under the guidance of Li’l Buds Theater Company, the entire class collaborates together to present musical theater performances. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of afterschool music offerings, which include individual lessons in drums and guitar, Glee, Band, and Choir.

It’s not all about the music at FXW. Through a unique partnership with Li’l Buds Theater Company that started in 2004 with second-grade plays, FXW students have the opportunity to craft, block, and perform in dramatic productions throughout their FXW career. Three years ago, Li’l Buds started the residency program and offers Drama options for preschool through 2nd grade, and 4th through 8th grade students.

Jeff Predmore, affectionately known as “Mr. Jeff” to FXW students, says that “FXW has always been special because the families and students from this community helped us incorporate as a company and start our summer camp program.” The staff at Li’l Buds has “loved watching the students grow year to year and learn to express themselves creatively.” For students who get bit by the theater bug, FXW offers Drama and Improv as afterschool activities.

FXW’s after-school offerings are not limited to music and drama. The time after school can be used to play Chess, practice Karate or Yoga, learn Cheer and Dance techniques, hone cooking skills, study Robotics, Computer Science or Mandarin, or perform Bollywood dancing. With so many choices, FXW has an extracurricular activity to suit the interests of every student, thus ensuring that the talents of every student can be nurtured.
